MARIE DRESSLER IN "LET US BE GAY."
TELEGRAPH.
"Well, in was the first time I ever rested and worked at the same time"; was the qulek reply made by Mark Dressler in answer to an inquiry as to how she likes her role in "Let Us Be Gay", Norma Shearer's now Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer talkie now being shown at the Queen's Theatre.
Cnst as an eccentric dowager, Miss Dreater enacts her part always seated in luxurious armchair, never mov- ing beyond an ccasional violent grature.
"It certainly was great not to have ta fall downstairs, into swimming pools or be run over by a truck", anid Dressler. "I guess. I really got a brenk in this picture",
Bro
Those who have seen the comedienno in her Intent characterization agreed that it is eveh wure outstand- ing than her portrayal of the old hag in "Anna Christie", or the Washing Lam Square andlady in "Caught Short". That her ability le not con- fed to drab rules is well demonstrat rd in the part she plays in "Let Us Bo Gay in which she shown that aho can wear beautiful gowns and put on the society air with the best of them and be hilariousty funny at the same

The new Shenrer vellele in an all- talking winptation of the well-known Rachel Crothers stage play which ran on Broadway for almost a year with Francine Larrimore in the starring with role. In the supporting Bliss Dressler are Rolan Noequit, Hedda Hopper, Gilbert Emery. Sally Eller, Tyrrell Davis and others.
The picture was directed by Robert 3. Leopard who produced Shearer's Tecent Aueres, Divorcee".
Majestic Rainier Lorade of Talkie. Some of the most beautiful moun- ini country in the United States furnishes the background against which Fox Movietone unrolla its stir- ring outdoor drams, "Rough Ro- mance", in which George O'Brien and Helen Chandler play lending roles. The film is the next attraction at the Queen's Theatre,
Intent upon securing absolute realism in what is heralded as the Arst all talking picture to depict the life of the north woods, Director A. F. Erickson transported his entire company from Hollywood to Rainier National Park in the Casende Range back of Tacoma for the filming of exterior sequences which make up the greater part of the film,
The entire company, which In- cluded, in addition to O'Brien und Mina Chandler, such noted players #8 Antonio Moreno, Neel Fruncis, David Hartford, Harry Cording and Eddie Borden enjoyed their stay in the now in. the hard work country despite volved.
The country dominated by stately Mount Rainier ja internationally celebrated stai "Rough Rumiance" further glorifies its rugged beauty.
"Why Bring That Up?" Charles Mack, of Muran and Mack, the Two Black Crows, the lazy voiced comedian who has never failed to produce laughs by merely remarking "well, what of it?" "Let him have it" and other commonplace utterances, becomer humo.ous by placing himself in the frame of mine of a bay from three to eight years of age.
All of my questions and conclusions are exactly what might be anid by a kil under eight years of ago-not nine or ten, for after his eighth birth- day boy isn't funny," "Mack has explained
"When I say but what if another bird gets there ahead of him? every- we laughs, yet few realize that this is a perfectly logical question from a child who can't get the iden clearly in his head.
"Go right down the line of my pet remarks and you'll find the same thing true.
"That's why childrun understand humour. They are the biggest buyers of our records. They learn 'em by heart."
Mora and Mack's first talking picture has been made along these same lines, as patrons will see and hear when "Why Bring Thai Up?" comes to the Central Theatre, next Sunday.
"King of Jazz."
New song hits are literally packed into "King of Jazz," the Universal musical extravaganza starring Paul Whiteman and his orchestra, which is now playing at the Central Theatro tu capacity houses.
Besides the eight spectacular musical numbers of the picture, thoro ara many specialties, in all of which grand new songs are featured. The entire picture is photographed in Tochnicolour.
Mabel Wayne, who wrote "Ramona”. and "Spanish Town," two of the biggest song hits ever registered, has contributed largely to "King of Jazz." She wrote "It Happened in Montoroy," a beautiful ballad which is sung in a supremely beautiful Mexican setting by John Bates and Jeanette Lol, and “My Ragamuffin Romeo," sung by Jeanlo Lang and George Chiles, especially for the Universal. prodne- ton.
Milton Ager and Jack Yellen, whoso "I wonder What Became of Sally” and other hits kavo mado them one of the best known song writing teams in the country. wrote overal nambers especially for the Whiteman picture. "A Bonch in the Park," "I've Got Those Happy Feet," "The Song of the Dawp" and "I Want to do Things for You" nro among them.
As played by the Whiteman orches- tra in the picture, these songs pro- vido the ultimate in popular musle from beautiful ballads to catchy jazz.
