HONGKONG GOES GOLD ON

LIQUOR AND TOBACCO.

TEXT OF NEW ORDER.

Yesterday Hongkong "went | gold" in the matter of duties on intoxicating liquora and tobacco, an Order being made by His Excellency the Governor giving full force and effect to a resolu- tion which will be submitted at the next meeting of the Legisla Live Council.

The

effect of the Order is that the duties on liquors which have hitherto been paid in local dollars irrespective of the rate of exchange shall now be taken as the rate of 1/8d. and shall be converted at the prevailing Trea- Hury Rate before payment.
