A Chinese constable said that about 10.20 p.m. on February 4, while he was on duty in Bedford Hoad he saw the defendant about fifty yards away stoop down and then run towards him. He stop ped defendant and searched him and found tied to his left leg two scissor blades and another tied to his right leg. The defendant took him to Cremer Street and pointed out a place where, he said, he had picked up the blades. Witnesslife of crime. then took defendant to the Mong- kok Police Station. On the way, defendant asked to be let off. In the station, defendant untied from around his waist some strips of cloth.
In reply to questions put by the defendant, witness said he did not go up to him. He did not see de- fendant holding a blade in his hand. Witness denied that he had picked up the bindes and cloth from the ground.
The statement made by the de- fendant at the Yaumati Police Stat. ion was then produced. It read as follows:-" was on my way to see a friend of mine at Shamshulpo when I picked up these things on the roadside. I then met the pollee, I did not know these things were illegal. ask his Worship to ex- cuse me."
Defendant now said he picked up one of the blades in the street, Seeing that it was useless to him, he threw it down and walked away. The constable then stopped and searched him, but found nothing on him. The constable then made a search of the ground and found the. blades and the strips of cloth.
A conviction was registered and the defendant was sentenced to 20 months' hurd Inbour and 24 strokes of the "cat", or.
if not fit for punishment, four months la ad- dition.
