GOLFING PROS AT FANLING.
1931.
AMATEURS SQUARE THE MATCHE
Before a
260 rrowd of about spectatora, made up of members and other residents of the Colony Interest.. ed in golf, a four-ball match was played at Fanling yesterday after. noon between "Wild" B Mehlhorn and Bobby Cruikshank, the American professionals, and 0. E. C. Marton and I. W. Showan, representing the Royal Hongkong Golf Club. His Excellency the Governor was on tho Best tee, and saw the beginning of the match.
The local players put up a very good game indeed, and at the 16th hole were dormis two, the profes. sionals facing possible defent. How- ever, they managed to win the last two holes, squaring a very attractive game. The wind was blowing south- east steadily the whole three hours of play, and the afternoon was kind, although at one time in the morning It looked as if rain might fail.
The professionals started off with the new American ball, while the club members played with the English standard, but Cruikshank took to the latter after the fifth hole. The styles of the two professionals were very different indeed. Mehlhorn, with bia broad muscular frame, used his full weight with a away on his hips while the smaller Cruikshank hnd n beautf- ful pivot. Of the two club members. Marton gave a really fine display, and it may be said that it was through his efforts that the local two were ao successful.
There were four outstanding shots In the course of the afternoon, the first betug from Cruikshank, whose second at the ninth with a lizuspie
At was a really wonderful stroke, the 10th Mehlhorn hooked his drive slightly so na to have the trees bo- tween him and the hole, but he ex triented himself with a perfect second! un to the green. Al the 13th Marton booked his second into the rough the left of the green about pin high, and niblicked out auccessfully, sink- ing his putt for a four, thereby halv- ing the hole. Mehlhorn ober Tm)??! figured after hooking his drive inte the rough on the 15th, and making a splendid recovery. Individuai

HOCKEY MATCHES.
INTERESTING GAMES ON
SATURDAY,
After lending by two elear goals. In their hockey St. Andrew's Chib,
a team from HMS match with Berwick on the Navy ground at King's Park on Saturday, gave way to a strong onslaught by the sailors. who equalised and finally zan out winners by the odd goal in five,
Play was fast from the bully-ff. N. Mackay and S. MacNider, for the Club, each scored a goal; the former with a lucky shot anil the latter with an effort which was all his own. The strenuous nature of the game then hagan to tell on the Club players, Anil it was the Navy team which took up the offensive, in the second half having matters pretty much their own way. Their first goal came from P. O. Daney, whose effert was ensulated
successfully by Corp. Keery, RM., who planted the equalising goal with a fine shot. Soon after this, a change in the disposition of the Club team
was effected, as Miller surrendered his position as goalie to E. White, who had been playing back.
The winning goal for the Navy team was netled by P. O. Dancy, with a shut sent in from the left. The ball struck White on the shoulder um then went into the net. The match concluded soon afterwards, Y.M.C.A. Draw with Indian, The Y.M.C.A. drew with the II. K. Indian Police team on their own ground at King's Park on Saturday. Play was extremely fast, the curious feature-being that of the total of eight goals, four were seared by the Indians in the first half, and the remaining four by their opponents in the second half, The European team had cause for congratulation in thus overcoming 11 big handicap and equajising.
Recreio Ladies Win.
Playing on the K.B.S.F.P.A. ground on Saturday the Club de Recreio Ladles XI defeated the Kowloon Ladies Hockey Club by two clear goals..
