WORCESTERS WIN HOCKEY

AT SHANGHAL

The hockey game between the Hong. kong Arny team and the Worcester. shires on the Hockey Club ground at Shangbai did not come up to expec- tutions. The Worcestershiron turned out at full strength and proved to be much, superior to their opponents, It was evident by the slaw alanner in which Hongkong reacted to attacks that their "sen-legs" were still with them, and, as was inter learned), the Hockey Club ground, hard and dry, proved to be very different from those In Hongkong, conditions were all in favour of the winners by 4-1.

The line-up of Hongkong was as follows: Stacey; Kenuifick and Hay: Gardner Tyler and Burn: Newlands, Taylor, Skipp, Jack and Hopkins.

Football Match.

The visiting Military team from Hongkong met the Worcestors, on defeated by five goals to one. They In their best found the Worcesters farm, but for all that they gave a rather disappointing display, says the N. C. D. News. The fact that they have not previously played together as a team probably has a great deal to do with their showing, whilst some of them may not yet have found their "ground" legs again, and then lastly, but not lonatly, it was New Year!

The visitors could not get moving at all, and incking cohesion. The Worcesters on the other hand were combining beautifully, and played sparkling football.

LOCAL RUGBY.

CLUB “A” DEFEATED BY

ARMY "A" SIDE.

It was a keer: and fast game at Happy Valley yesterday afternoon, when an Army "A" fifteen defeated a Club "A" sida by a goal and three trivs (14 points) to a goal and a penalty goal (8 points). The gaire was of the end-to-end order, though there were few really sparkling move. ments, even if the threes on both sides avemel better together than in pre- vidus Junior games.

Nevertheless, a lot of ground was gained on both sides by kicks ahend by the forwards; many of them would have been checked at their inception hy a kernor defence. Running across the ground instead of hard for the line also apollt a number of chances, whilst the passing was sometimes to alow, so that the attack was turned | imo defence.

Both sets of forwards started of well, though the Club did not have the better of the hooking in the frat halt: Pears improved in this rospecti as the game went on, and got the ball most of the time in the second half. Towards the end, however, both sides were tired, and the gamo bocama rather scrappy, with the Club doing most of the pressing in the loose.

King and Mills combined fairly well at half for the Club, but Law dropped a lot of passen, though Plummer an unfe, an who Fox, at full-back; Fer- uson had little chance to make a straightforward dash for the line, but Johnson, on the left, did quite well, kleking.nicely to touch and being twice unlucky in not getting over the line.

CLUB'S LUCKY WIN.

ARMY HOCKEY TEAM BEATEN IN SIM SHIELD.

The Club were fortunate in defeat ing the Army in the Sim Shield competition yesterday by 3 goals to 2, but the latter can be blamed for not forcing home advantages derived from territorial supremacy.

The Army forwards displayed dis- tinet Ineptitude to shoot accurately, and played far too much for position, thus allowing the speedy-Club backe to nip in and save some awkward sitmiions. This was especially pro nounced in the second half, when the
