SERVICES "A" DEFEAT THE

The

CLUB "A" TEAM.

United Services "A" Afteen ran out winners yesterday afternoon on the Club ground at Happy Valley, defeating the Club "A" alde by four tries (12 points) to a try (3 points), in a fast game. The fifteen folded by the Servleen was little, 17_any,| inferior to the fifteen that playöd Inst Saturday. They did not get the hall quita no often from the tight scrums, but, when the ball did get out, it was

early always put to good use.

Howitt played a very sound game at scrum-half for the Services, and get the ball away well for Roberts, who won a little shaky at first; 10 pass to a line of threes who know how to run straight and hard. WhenI the ball went out to the loft, Barlowe showed a fine turn of speed, and wha unlucky not to score more than once. Parker was another Services three- quarter who worked hard and ran well, and he looked dangerous nearly every time he had the "bail.

Frankha was safe at full-back, though it must be sold that he had little to do. The pick of the Services forwards were Pascoe, Nicholson, Edwards, Gilmore and Tratt, and, especially in the first minutes, before the Club pack settle down, were ni mist uverwhelming in the loose.

Fox played soundly full-back for the Chib, s kleking being necurate most of the line, whilst he was on the mark with his tackles, In fact. the keen marking of the Club out- nicles saved the scure from being much Krender. An injury to Macredy re duced the Club's strength half-way through the first half, and Macredy, though he pluckily emo back after a few minutes, was an crippled that for hud 1 retire at half-time. Forwards Fail.

La distinguished himself with a flying tackle af Barlowe, when the latter looked bound to go through, and was very safe in defence and made ground with one or two gund rips, Turner and King combined well, as usual, though the Club for wards did not follow up as fast as in their wont, and thus did not give their usual support in taking the ball down. Turner was almost over once, with a fani and tricky run. Cox hede the ball well from the front row of the Club scrum, but it wan often held by the second and third rows, when quick huet might have given the Club a big advantage.

The Services were sometimes for- tunate, whereas the Club were often unlucky in that the ball bounced wrongly, or just remained in play from a long kick to touch, The Set- vires were the better side, however, thanks to an improved three-parter ine That was well served from the base of the serum.
