"Pennode? What's that?"

"It's a Philips 5-clement Power Valve.'

"Go on any good?"

"Well a man who's seen as much of the world as myself, is hard to get enthusiastic and I say that this Penthode and a Philips Transformer give me results equal to two stages: "Go on! And the reproduction?"

RUGBY FOOTBALL.

KEEN GAME SEEN AT HAPPY VALLEY;

H. E. the Governor, Sir Williant Peel, accompanied by his A.D.C., was a spectator at the Rugby, Football match at Happy Valley yesterday afternoon, when the Club defeated H.M.S. Cornwall by eleven points : to three, a goal and two tries to a try. The Club is particularly to be con gratulated in serving up such a fine sporting game for the introduction of His Excellency to the standard of play in the Colony.

It was a case of "no quarter given or asked," and play remained on the robust side from the primary whistle antil "no

blown by Captain Deakin, It was unfortunate that the Club had two players injured in the second half, but the Club played like demons inspired when they were man, and then two men, short. Alark-

on both aides, although the Cornwall pack were a little the better in this respect. Also, when they were tackled, they went down. with the ball fighting like tigers, whilst some of tho- Club forwards were content to die with the ball. Several would be tackles on the

part

of the Club went astray for this very reason, but the Club have really very little to worry about, as the pack will improve as the season proceeds, and it will be an extraordinarily strong set of forwards that will dispossess. them of the ball later on..

It was a very good game, and the Cornwall are to be felicited on the Webb, at good showing they put up. full-back was as steady and sure as ever, the three's were consistent, and the halves had very little the worse of the duel with the Club halves. Archdall, Morgen. Knott and Mac- 11 pack Lean were perhaps the best of that never accepted defeat. The Club were, of course, weakened towards the end of the Kame through the loss of Ferguson and Lammert, but the whole side played a magnificent game in the circumstances.

All the three's were good, inderd very good, and Bonnar and King. showed signs that they will prove a formidable combination when they become more accustomed

to rach

other's play. West. Younger, Gammell and Peers showed up well in the Club forward line, whilst Suttill did of yeoman work in his capacity hooker.

Farewell to Cornwall.

The Cornwall side, as at present constituted, played its farewell game yesterday, and leaves the Colony on Wednesday, having played six games against the Club, with three wins for ench side.

A band of fine sportsmen, with rugger in their very bones, they have played some of the most entertaining games that will ever be seen on the Club ground. All rugger enthusiasts in Hongkong will join me in wishing them the best of luck, mingled with regret that such a fine teum, in the fullest sense of the word, has to be broken up when the ship reaches England.
