WIFE ACCUSED OF MURDER.
FOUR OTHERS ALSO CHARGED.
A terrible death was meted out to a villager in the New Torri- tories as a result of embracing his daughter-in-law, according to the Crown case against five fellow villagers, which was set out before Mr, E. L Wynne-Jones at Taipo Police Court yesterday afternoon.
There were five prisoners, tha principal one Tang Yung, aged 63 (widow) who was charged with the murder of her husband, Cheung Pak-yau, also 63 years of age, at Sheung Tse Village, Pak Heung Valley, Au Tau, on Septem. ber 1, this year. The others were Cheung Yuk-shun, Cheung Yau- luk, Cheung Shiu and "Cheang Shlu-hing, who were charged with aiding and abetting. Prisoners were undefended.
A
In telling the Crown version of the crime, Mr. Andrewes said that Cheung met hia death in the village between five and six o'clock on the afternoon of September 1. No news of his death reached Au Tau Police Station until two days later, September 3, when, at about noon. Sergt. C. Baysting. in charge of Au Thu Station, received a report | as a result of which he went to the village and made enquiries.
Defendants Arrested.
Sergt. Bursting succeeded in locating the place where the body' had been hurted, had it exhumed and sent it to Kowloon Mortuary. As a result of his, enquiries the defendants were arrested.
Continuing. Mr. Andrewes said that Dr. Utley performed a post mortem examination but the body was in such an advanced state of decomposition that he could not definitely state the cause of death,) but either he was beaten to death or strangled to death.
Mr. Andrewes added that the circumstances were best described ip statements made by the first and second defendants.
