A docter's daughter, living, in Kent but whose disclosed, gave evidence at West- minster in a case in which May Barker, aged 41, married, was charged with demanding £60 with | menaces" from her.

Mr. C. Grundy prosecuted.

The prosecutrix said that in May her parents were not livinggi together but they were reconciled shortly afterwards. After she had received certain information from her mother she went to Barker's house at East Ham. Mrs. Barker's mother and two men were there.

and there was some conversation. On July 15 she received a tele- gram and again went to East Ham. She stopped on the way to see her father in a surgery, and then went on with her husband in a taxicab to à public-house.

For the first time she saw Mrs. Barker, who said, "I have had an awful time." Refreshments were ordéred, and she asked Barker what she required to keep silence. "You would not really expose daddy, would you?" she said, and Barker replied, **** must have money."

Note to Doctor.

After threatening to expose the doctor to the Medical Council.. Barker wrote the following note on the back of a cheque, "Dear Doc, -I am leaving you alone on con- dition that you help me, and re- place my garments and shoes: otherwise I must expose you."

After some correspondence an appointment was made for another meeting at Victorin. Mrs. Barker asked for £60, and as a cheque for that amount was given her she was arrested.

Cross-examined by Mr. Grobe! defending, the prosecutor denied that the charge was brought with the idea of breaking off the ac quaintanceship between her father and Barker.

Mr. Grobel said his contention was that the prosecution was not bona-fide.

The prosecutrix, recalled, suid} that just before she left the buffet at Victoria reference was made to divorce proceedings by Barker's husband, but Barker said that would be all right.

Barker was remanded on bail.
