"RIO RITA" PROVING VERY

POPULAR

Bebe Daniels is the latest favourite operetta singer. The manager of the Central Theatre reports that after playing "Rio Rita," the all-talking, all-musical Radio Pictures' ex- travaganza, for six days, he has received more complimentary com- ments on Bebe's voice than any heard before from the screen.

"Rio Rita" has definitely "hit" here. Already scores of fans are making second visits to the Central Theatre to hear again the dozen or more tuneful musical numbers of this most famous Ziegfeld show, transferred in all its colour and splendour to the screen.

John Boles appears opposite Bebe in Rio Rita" and his "nor adds! much to the glamour of the score. Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey play the comedy roles they created. in the original stage production. Dorothy Lee, whose piquant "baby talk" singing was responsible for a large measure of the success of "Syncopation," aids the in, their antics,

In Raoul Walsh's production "The Cock Eyed World," El Brendel sang a few dities. In Walsh's current production "Hot For Paris," in which Victor McLaglen is featured with Brendel and Fifi Dorsay, the Swede comic has been promoted by Walsh to sing a special number written for him by Walter Donald- son and Edgar. Leslic and called "The Cuckoo Song."

"Hot For Paris," coming on Fri- day to the Queen's Theatre, chially concerns the first mate of a sailing vessel, played by McLaglen. He buys a ticket in the Calcutta Sweep- stakes, wins the capital prize in the Derby and cannot be found, to de liver to him the million which the winning long shot brought home. When all this money is delivered McLaglen proceeds to go on a spending spree in Paris and then things happen.

At the Majestic Theatre, good receptions' continue to be accorded Eleanore Ninon and Leo Mantin in "Gay Paree." The Majestic pre- sents real "sophisticated entertain- ment" on stage in conjunction with the comedy drama starring Clara Bow. Both attractions are shown only at the 9.20 p.m. performances. Clara Bow is charmingly funny in "The Fleet's In!"
