THE TAIKOO CLUB: SWIMMING GALA:

EVENTS UNAFFECTED BY WEATHER,

The inclement weather did not pre- vent the Taikoo 'Club'swimming gala being held at the Victoria Recreation Club yesterday afternoon and quite a large sized, gathering assem bled to contribute to the success of the sports.

The entries in all the events were quite large and keen rivalry was shown during the meet Excellent swimming was witnessed in spite of the coldness of the water and the cold bręcze blowing. The keenest interest was aroused in the sports by the younger generation who were greatly in preponderance,

All the oventa were worked off smoothly without any hitch and great credit is due to the organisers for the precision with which the various races wero carried but

At the conclusion of the meet Mrs. F. J. Shervell distributed a glitter. ing collection of prizes.

Mr. D. B. Bone, presiding at the distribution, said Ladies and Gen- tlemen, Boys and Girls. "If you

realised as I do to what an extent the success of this event to-day has been due to the enterprise and energy of

of Mr. Russell you

Would 1 understand my diffidence in now ad- dressing you. I can only thank you all very much on behalf of the Taikoo Clab, for making this gain a success, especially when one considers the Inclement weather which has made travelling rather uncomfortable. We are greatly indebted to those mem- bers who generously subscribed to the funds thereby allowing us to engage the bath of the Victoria Re creation Club, to whom we tender our best thanks for their generosity.
