"Would Chummy hate me know anything?" asked Judy, re- proachfully.
"No-not you, Judy," he said quickly. "Of course, not you. Well, you know she's taken a studio in a building near mine, and little bedroom, and a funny little galley just off the stairs, with a gas ring and a sink. Before she went she just told me that ́ sho wasn't going to be married. She 'didn't explain, and somehow didn't like to ask her. She moved her things in and asked me to keep an eye on them while she was away, There is no housekeeper in the building, and she was going to leave me the key.
"Well, not to make it too long, 1 mistook the day she said she was going, and, not receiving the key, I went round to inquire. The door of her studio was open, and it look- ed empty, so I went in. She wasn't in there, but I looked through the door of the other little room, and there she stood. I oughtn't have looked, but I couldn't help my self, She had her back to me. her hand she held a smail photo graph, in a kind of miniature frame"

I've been thinking you'd forgotten little Judy! I was hating the idea of to-morrow."
"I came back for it; Judy," the other girl said, when Judy finally released her and she could breathe. "I've got you a lovely seat," said Judy. "I don't care what happens, now that you're going to be there!"
In breathless haste she poured | out the whole tale of her wonder ful luck. So innately modest was little Judy that you might easily have thought that her genius had nothing to do with it at all.

When she had finished, a silence fell. Something had to be said. They both knew it. They looked at each other. Judy's glance was fever bright; Chummy's was seri- ous, but serene..
Judy nerved herself.
"And-Mr. Steyne?" she asked. "I don't know whether he's still in Paris," Chummy said quietly.
"Tell me, Chummy-it was only a squable, wasn't it?"
"What do you mean?" Chuminy replied, with her grave smile.
"I mean between you and Mr. Steyne. Chummy, from the first I knew it must be only a quarrel."
"You are wrong, Judy. It was never a quarrel. I couldn't quarrel that. We with Alan-you know were always such-friends."

“MONTMARTRE FOLLIES"
NEW PROGRAMMĒ.
The second change of pro- gramme of the "Montmartre Follies" opened before large audiences at the Queen's Theatre yesterday. With the rise of the curtain the catching foxtrot- ensemble "Break Away" from the "Follies 1929" was performed by five dancers. Special mention must Miss Vera Fynn who were the be made of Miss Tassia Goldin and
best of this quintette. Miss Vera Volkova and her partner Torepoff rendered a very eccentric dance, "Russian Doll Dance." -This charming danseuse received, as could be expected. the greatest. ovation from the admiring theatre- goers. Miss Nina. Gania gave an excerpt from "Singing in the Rain" ("Hollywood Revue.") Miss Ganina seems, however, to have very little variations in her steps as all her numbers given at the theatre are of the same technique and rhythm. Miss Vena Fynn gave the "Caramunian Dance." Miss Alla Nedler gave a splendid exhibition of toe dancing in her "Pizzicato Dance" from the light opera “Sylvia"
An excellent piece of perform- ing was introduced by Miss Tassia Goldin in her innovation "Drummer's Caprice," an eccentric dance. This clever young lady has had a thorough training of academic dancing. Messes. Toro- poff and Goncharoff masterly demonstration of agility In their "Pirate Dance" which brought them rousing cheers from the audience.

The great night was indeed a great night. It was a stupend- ous, a blinding, success. It was silent with the silence of acute enjoyment; it was noisy with the noise of uncontainable enthusiasm. The house yelled and roared, and held its breath, and yelled and roared again.
Little Judy Grant was a great dancer-there was no doubt about that.
...
She was the whole programme. There was a ballet, of course, and a very good one. She herself had only three people appearing with her, and they were mere adjuncts, though useful and appropriate ones. Her dances alone.
