AIR THRILLS AT HENDON.
ASTONISHING CRAZY FLYING BY AVROS.
R.A.F. PAGEANT.
A record crowd estimated at nearly 250,000 attended. the eleventh Royal Air Force display at Hendon and witnessed perhaps the finest flying programme ever presented.
S
Prince George, King George of Grecce, Prince Damrong of Siam, and Prince and Princess Taka-
matsu arrived before the start of the main programme, when the enclosures were packed with people all round the aerodrome.
The programme extended from the astonishing crazy flying of two Avros to the technically in- teresting exhibition of new types and of the three special safety air- craft.
Flying Officer G. E. Campbell and Pilot Officer F. Whittlo flew the Avros, and went round the aerodrome in skids which would have aroused the envy of a dirt- track rider, At one moment they
the
came close together, tipped up, one to the right and the other to the left, and flew across aerodrome in these positions, look- ing something like a shed roof that had been blown away.
Safety Aircraft.
were
The parade of the three safety aircraft evoked roars of laughter. The Autogira led the formation, with the Handley Page "Gugnune”, on one side and the Hill Piero- dactyl on the other. The Autogiro and the "Gugnunc," which flown by Flight Lieutenant A. E. Rogenhagen and Flying Officer A. H. H. Leach, eame as close to hovering stationary in the air as any heavier-than-air machine ever has come. They descended almost vertically and landed in a few feet, Less amusing but of even greater -technical interest were the in- terceptor fighters..
The Fairey Fifefly, with the super-charged Rolls-Royce engine developed largely as a result of the Schneider Trophy race, climb- ed in a way that filled the on- lookers with wonder. It swept past the enclosures a few feet from the ground and then "stood" on its tail and shot upwards un- checked for many thousand feet.
Equally remarkable was the per- formance of the new De Havil |land-Napier Interceptor with the 16-cylinder air-cooled engine,

Pale umber chiffon is a lovely fabric to choose for a dainty dinner dress like this. The sloping line of the skirt flounces is repeated in the charming little cape which finishes the simple bodice with its self waistband and amber buckle. A string of amber beads is the only other ornament.
Care of Curtains.
When making new short curtains remember to buy enough material to make one extra curtain for each set. This extra curtain used in rotation with the others will pro- long the life of the whole set. Generally one curtain goes long before the others.
In buying patterned material it is often an economy to choose a pattern which can be used either way up.
Make equal hems, top and bot- tom, so that the runner may be cut through either end. By reversing the curtains you will get longer wear out of them.
Net curtains shrink several inches when washed. Allow for this when making them. If put
up damp, after washing, they can be stretched a little, but remember that they very easily tear when this is being done.

After a man marries a beautiful woman, he begins to take her beauty for granted. He needs more powerful qualities to keep his love. He needs friendship, goodwill, and understanding. These never come to be taken for granted.
