Mr. Bennett, on the contrary, contended that inter-empire and Empire agreements must be based on reciprocal trade preferences. Canada's first considetation should be adequate. protective tariffs against foreign competition.

Although both chief parties claim that they will obtain a clear majority in the next Parliament, betting on the results does not bear out such confidence, and-indicates that the Independents and Western Canada farmers' representatives hold the balance of power; as obtained in 1921-26-Reuter.

In his will, Sir Paul Chater made this Church the Residuary Legatees of his estate. The Off- cial Trustee of Bengal visited Hongkong in 1927, and was the guest of the Vice-Chancellor of sa the University, an old friend of 7 his in Calcutta. On his return to Calcutta, the Official Trustee sug gested to the authorities of the Armenian Church that it would be a graceful act on their part, if they raised some money to be I spent in the University of Hong- kong in commemoration of Sir Paul Chater's services to the Uni- veraity and of his generosity to his national church in his native" town.
