STORY OF £98,000 LEGACY.

FRAUD CHARGE AGAINST MARRIED WOMAN.

An amazing story of an alleged bogus £08,000 will was told at Stratford.

Mrs. Edith Mercy Ford, of Rích- · mond-road, Ilford, it was stated, represented to. David Emanuel Rodriguez, then manager of a cinema, that an aunt, Mrs. Dennis, of Durban, had left her £45,000 in cash, and shares worth £53,000. She showed him what purported to be the will, discussed buying the cinema and asked his advice.

· Rodriguez' said that he lent her various sums of money, stood se- curity for her, and borrowed money for her. "Eventually,” he said, "I felt convinced she was a fraud and Informed the police."

A. defective said that when he read the warrant to Mrs. Ford, she remarked, "That is a long time ago."

She said, added the detective. that she had torn up the will, but produced from her handbag 4 typewritten document, alleged to be a copy of it.

оп

Mrs. Ford was remanded, bail, charged with obtaining money by false pretences from Rodriguez.
