GERMANY'S PLAN TO REVIVE HER INDUSTRIES.

FIRST STEP TAKEN.

Berlin, June 10.

The first step towards bringing down prices by reducing wages has been taken by the Minister of Labour, Herr Stegerwald, who, on the request of the employers, has declared an obligatory award in favour of the West German Iron and steel group, which the Trade Unions rejected.

The reduction amounts to seven and one-eighth per cent, and in- dustrialists undertook to reduce the sale price of their products by the same percentage, and ag equivalent reduction of three or four marks per ton in the prices of iron.

It is learned that the Ruhr coal industry is contemplating a similar condition price reduction on the that miners' wages are simul- taneously reduced.

TRAINING FOREST

OFFICERS.

HOME GOVERNMENT SETS UP COMMITTEE.

London, June 10. The Colonial Secretary, in con- sultation with the Secretary for India and the Forestry Commis sloners, has appointed a Commit tee to consider and report on the training of candidates and pro- bationers for appointment as Forest Officers.

Both M. Pasquier and M. Robin occupy the highest executive posts of the French Colony, and have ur- had responsibilities of an enviable nature thrown on them by the recent attempt at rebellion. While they have been able to tide over the crisis and deal with every fresh danger which has since recurred, they have not been free from criticisms and reproaches arising from an alleged liberal interpretation of their executive powers.

Powers Abused?

The Left Wing of the Chamber of Deputies in Paris, for instance, auggested an abuse of powers on the part of these officials, and si an early opportunity forced an "interpellation" of the Ministry of Colonies.

He and four of the men around were cut by flying pieces of wood and metal. They were knocked to the deck of the ship. Other members of the crew rushed to the rescue of the injured men who were taken to St. Paul's Hospital.

Captain I. Yamanaka of the ship was among the first to visit the injured men at the hospital yesterday afternoon. His investi gation on board the ship showed. that Nakayama was the man who lifted the box,
