WOMAN'S WORLD

FOR OUR LADY READERS

A black lace frock with a wild flower trail, worn with lang black suede gloves and black satin shoes, is very delightful for a not too formal dinner or dance.

Why We Have Headaches.

[By Dr. Frederick Graves.] It has been said that a headache is a pain in the head, but not every hend pain is a headache.

Headaches are caused by some upset in another part of the body as a rule and are the protest of the cranial nerves against the ir- ritation caused.

kny

The brain is enclosed in a tough capsule which cannot expand, and blood when anything sends more into the brain to distend it it makes a stmin on that capsule and we get a scuse of fullness and pain which is generally made worse br net, such as stooping, that increases the congestion.

Indirectly all sorts of things may A com. increase this congestion, mon cause is a cold or any feverish nate; eye-strain may set it and, indeed, is one of the frequent causes of headache.

.rom some amount of auto-intoxica tion or absorption of waste matters, that and in those casos it means a reduction in the diet, especially meat foods, is needed so that only. the food that is easily digested and just enough for the body needs is required. This, coupled with fair air, exercise and plenty of fresh will generally clear away the try- ing and persistent beadaches.

Heredity Play a Part.

It must be admitted that heredity appears to play a part in the causa tion of many headaches, and though the correction of digestive irregu laritien-suitable glasses for defec strain, Uve sight, the relief of Kr.--may cure many forms

The hendagbes from cyc-strain usually persist mainly over опе eyebrow, but may spread to all that side, or both sides of the head.

The "sick beadaches" muy come from this case, though they arc more common from digestive dis turbance, dyspepsia, constipation, sluggish liver, and any of the ccn.

FRECKLES AND HIS FRIENDS

Some of the most obstinate forms of headache are due to insuficient oxygenation of the blood and are cured by a charge of place or oc cupation, where that is possible,

that the air of a different neigh- bourhood is breathed-and the more of it the better. The segular practice of deep breathing exercises several times a day will often curo a chronic headache.

Harlequin Glass.

ADDS GAIETY TO OUR TABLES.

In these days of brightly colour- ful and novelty decoration, we are always on the look-out for some thing new in the way of the orna-. mental trifles which add galety to our tables-dressing, "writing, bridge, tea and dining. Quite an original idea is harlequin glass, a gay effect which is very easily ac- complished with the aid of some sheets of tinfoil or tinsel, paper of various colourings, transparent gum, and a tin of good, silver bronze paint.

or

Perfectly plain glass bowla and plates should be used. They can be bought very cheaply.

Cut the tinfoil into cornered shapes, and gum the pieces patch- work-wise on the underside only of the articles being decorated, so that, when finished they glitter with harlequn effect through the upper side of the glass.

The perennially popular black-and-white scheme is illustrated in the chic toilette on the left: frock, hat and handbag are all made of black satin beaute, the vest and frilled collar of ivory white satin, ith narrow cuffs to match, lending a pleasant finish to the dress.

Navy. beige-and-lemon is the colour scheme of the second dress, which is developed in one of the new boldly-printed crepes, relieved by collar and cuffs of · pale lemon georgette, and worn with a hat having a lemon-coloured crown and ย navy-blue brim.
