HOME FOOTBALL CONCLUDES.

EVERTON FOR SECOND DIVISION.

Champlons of the country in the seasons 1890-01, 1914-15, and 1927-28, Everton Town who have been one of the pioneers of the First Division af the English Football League will ap pear for the first time in the history of the Club in the Second Division when the scnson opens again after four months interval. The famous Everton team have also appeared in the final of the Cup on four occasions, winning the trophy in 1905-6 for the first and only time.

Burnley accompany Everton down to the Second Division, Sheffield United managing to escape relegation by better goal average. A very peculiar feature of the final matches was that all the six teams at the bottom of the table secured full points in their games.

Goal average played a very impor- tant role in relegation in the Second Division where Hull and Bristol City finished with the same number points as Notts, County and Reading but lose their places. Chelsen quali- fied for the First Division, although they lost to Bury. Oldham lost their chance of promotion by suffering de- feat at Barnsley.

The new regiment took first knock, but put up a very poor show, being all dismissed for 50 runs. The bowling honours were fairly evenly divided. The Volunteers fared nons too well, but managed to pass their opponents' score with four wickets in hand, the innings realising 64 ruas.

The two first innings having been completed at an early hour, it was possible for the teams to have a second knock. The Highlanders ran up a total of 72, the Voluntters having eight wickets in hand when they knocked of the necessary 59 rons. · The first innings scores weres
