Roadside Trees,

It is noticed that one or two trees have been felled along the Nathan Road, and although many people will express regret at the removal, it has to be borne in mind that in all probability, the in- creased traffic of the future, will render it necessary that the scenic value of this important thorough- fare be sacrificed in order to give more room for motor vehicles. With the rapid growth of residen- tial districts, it will naturally fol- low that more motor buses will be required, and the authorities may even deem it necessary to allow the larger type of double-deck vehicles in order to cope with the demands of the passenger traffic. There is one point we should like to emphasise, and that is, when- ever new trees are planted border- ing a readway, they should be placed sufficiently får back from the actual road in order to make it possible to carry out widening operations at a later date without: having to remove them.
