Information has been received locally to the effect that the Secre tary of State for the Colonies has appointed Captain W. H. G. Goat er, D.S.O., M.C., of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment, as Adjutant of the Hongkong Volunteer Defence Corps.

Captain Goater will succeed Major Wolfe Murray, who left for Home recently. In the meantime, Captain Strachey of the Somerset Light Infantry has been acting as Adjutant, and will continue to do so until Capt. Goater's arrival.
