After the wonderful showing that been making resident Hall has

in all his recent races there does

seem to be much use looking behind him for the winner of the Aggregate Stakes which is the prin- cipal race on this afternoon's pre- gramme. This and several of the other races have secured good-class entries, and allowing for a liberul number of scratchings in each event, fair sized fields should be seen, especially in the handicap races which number seven.

Punters will be in a bad plight owing to the absence of the crack jockey, Mr. A. J. P. Hoard, who is infortunately confiard in the Peak Hospital with an eye ailment.

Mr. Arnold, too, I hear, is on the sick list but will endeavour to ride London, April 1 Zaphyr in the second race, after Negotiations for the conclu- which he intends to take a rest on

CINEMA NOTES.

BIG MOVIETONE TALKIE TO-MORROW.

Long awaited but well worth the waiting for. "The Occk Eyed World" Raoul Walsh's masterful Fox Movietone effort, has come to town and is to open at the Queen's Theatre to-morrow.

Since the advent of talking ple- tures, no production has come to this city with such glorious acclaim from all parts of the country as this achievement et Movietone, which, by the way, is an all-talk- ing picture. Runil on a story by Laurence Stallings and Maxwell Anderson, who co-authored the neinorable "What Price Glory", it featured Vietor MeLaglen, Edmund Lowe and Lily Damitn-Lowe and McLaglen again the

fighting marines but now, in times of peace, confining their chief battles to pas- suges at arms over their various lady loves,

The trend of the story takes the marines to Russia, to the tropics and to New York and Coney Island. Lily Damita, more fascinat- ing than ever, is their girl of the tropics, Lelia Karnelly their Russian girl and Jean Bary their New York girl.

Quelling. an uprising in the tropics is their only opportunity to do the battling the marines are nated for, and Walsh has, even in this comparatively minor engage- ment, eclipsed for drama, force and thrills any battle of "What Price Glory."

"The Cock Eyed World" bas every ingredient that makes for real pastime, humour, sparkling dialogue. hectic love scenes, tense druma and a happy combination of all those things that appeal, from the

screen, especially the feminine sex.

to

The supporting cast is excellent, with El Brendel, framer star of musical emedy and vaudeville, reaping plenty of honours with his incemparable portrayal of a Swede Marine, "Olson". Joe Brown and Bobby Burns also have important roles.
