Underneath the New Styles

T

Revealing how the revolution in fashion has made necessary new lines for lovely lingerie

THE changing silhouette has cast its magic shadow on intimate apparel. Presto! Every one of the new gowns now has its counter- part in lingerie.

There are princess slips and fitted panties, Em pare combinations and circular sets, step-ins and ships with flounces in dainty lace.

Moreover, the dressmaker touch gives its deli- cacy to much of the new lingerie. Tucks, fine handwork, lace, and embroidery all decorate it.

Low-waisted slips are out, princess lines and wrap-arounds are in Slips do not belt the waist- line, but fit it so that the gown that goes over them has the advantage of sweltness. The very chic woman now has a lingerie set for each casemble and dress.

Sports suits take the softly tailored lingerie that is in the same mood as their own spirits. Tailored chemises, skirts, or brassieres with knickers QI sharts in satin are quite a favorite.

LINGERIE sels for afternoon and evening wear

are made of gossamer-like fabrics, dainty ar cobwebs. Lew-hacked sets are the order of the day, waistlines are fitted and all slips are longer. Nighties may be long or short, but some women are wearing them clear to the floor.

Nightdresses, as a matter of fact. are as studied in cut and trimming as any day dress. Lace yokes, square ones with tiny cap sleeves, or puff sleeves, are very new. Empire lines are used on some of the bridal sets. Demure, round necklines go with

the most sophisticated princess cuts,

F women prefer pajamas for sleeping. there are dainty silken unes quite as feminine as nighties, Sleeveless, some of them now have waistlines and peplums of lace which make them tremendously attractive.

Pajamas for lounging, and negligees, are regal in their beauty this spring.

SATIN, georgette, Alencon, flat crepe, crepe de chine, bencade, tames and all the gamut of ex- quisite fabrics fashion these. The most authentic ones are very individual in

cul, preferring line to decoration. lace is used, it is apt to be done in exquisite manner, with fine pleating. seaming or godets.

There is less modernistic decoration on lingerie. It is as if a premium were placed on suave, graceful and unobtrusive decoration. The use of several colors that contrast sharply is not good this year. Solt effects are the better choice.

series of tucks. The decollete follows the line of the evening gown which tops it.

IV SUMPTUOUS for those lounging hours is a white satin pajama suit, with a tuck-in vest with real lace decorating it. The trousers are made with deep tucks flaring at the ankles and the coat has a black and gold leaf design on it for an extra touch of chic.

V THE new uneven hemline is a feature of the flared skirt in this nightgown of soft beige crepe de chine which uses face for ornamentation. The lace borders the hemline and the low rounde neck and forms the bell.

VI. PRINCESS lines are equally as distinctive

in a nightgown as in a frock, as is demon- strated in this model, whore uneven hemline has a dipping movement. A square of lace makes the upper bodice, and ribbons of the material form asash bow on the left shoulder to replace the lace strap of the right shoulder.

VII, NEW and stunning is the union of black net and black velvet in a lounge pajama suit. Its trousers reflect the new trend in cut and the entire effect is one of legal beauty.

VIII. EXQUISITE pale peach crepe de

chine, with rose beige Alencon dipping

to a deep fiant yoke and extending down the trailing sleeves, adds charm to this ultra-feminine negligee. The sleeves dip their width on the floor. There is a draped feeling to the body of this garment, caught in the front with a jewelled pin. IX. THE tendency toward the svelt line is re-

vealed in this negliges of off-white satin in gleaming yellow tone. It is made with fitted body line and molded hips that give it a long tube line to where a circular flounce comes in at knce length. Its sleeves are medieval, and no speck of decoration mars the perfection of its line.

THERE is a feeling of understand- ing between the lace and the fabric it decorates this spring, with rose beige Alencon decorating peach salin, green Ninon and beige lace, white georgelle and castor lace, and flesh with cream. Lingerie frequently is especially for the dress with which it will be worn. When this is true, exactly the same lines are followed as in the gown. A dipping movement in the back of an afternoon gown, for example, will be closely fol- lowed in the lingerie.

Molded hips are a feature of the new tailored lingerie, for no woman has a desire to look fat. Chemises are shaped to the waist also and are longer than last year.

The consciousness that comes when

a woman realizes that she is beautifully and appropriately dressed has much to do with that poise which is essential to loveliness. Harmony of costume is dependent not only on a surface view but on the complete unity of every article of apparel that is worn.
