annual report, the chairman said: 1.8. Forrester
It is now over a quarter of a
the century since
Hongkong Evangélisation Society was found- ed. It was founded as a joint effort in which Chinese and non- Chinese co-operated to carry the light of the Gospel to rural parts of the Colony. The field is wide. The leased Territories cover no less than 376 square miles, in- eluding 90 miles of islands. in which there are 600 and more villages, market towns, and float- ing population homes, with a po- pulation of at least 100.000 souls. Into this region the Chinese have migrated at different periods from! various quarters, so that many have different dialects.
In this wide field our mission is the only one of any magnitude. Would that were ten times as large that it might adequately and cope with this great task accomplish more speedily Ita beneficent alms.
