Rest is one of the simplest and. most easily attained of all the acquirements of health, yet it is one which, unfortunately, is com- monly unfulfilled.
The human machine cannot maintain, a perpetual and uncena- ing activity. Regular pauses are essential in order that the body tissues may undergo repairs, and that the expanded energy may be replaced. The heart; the pivot of life, rests for a fraction of a'

Long Spells of Work. Though sleep is the body's chief means of ensuring periodic rest, this happening does not absolve us from the need for rest in the course of our daily ad- tivities. Practical psychologists have shown that spells of work unbroken by regular rest pauses are unsatisfactory from the point of view of quantity and quality of production.
For children sufficient rest is of vital importance. An excessive display of energy should be check- ed, for it leads to an over-tiredness which is dangerous to health. Wise parents should insist off regular pauses during the day, particular- |ly after meals.
A Simple Gown.
A simple home gown, embodying most of the fea- tures that have achieved success this season, is deve- loped in pale fawn and cherry- red
de chine. The crepe slightly gauged shoulder line is good; so also is the well- cut skirt flaring into godets each side and falling from a belt placed just above the hip-line. A dainty touch is secured by means of the pale fawn georgette jubot which finishes the high-cut neckline.
Added fullness in dance frocks necessitates' dainty slips of some kind, and the lingerie, specialists are now adding petticoats to their "seta." This modern petticoat is not by any means a straight slip, but a fluffy, feminine affair, with frills, insets of lace, and many tiny tucks. Incidentally, the fluffy note is a feature of all the new lingerie.

The greatest difficulty. I have with producers is to keep the sets simple, so that the action gets the attention. If the set is cluttered, with old Italian red sofas and tap- estry hangings, and brilliant cur from the leading character, even tains, they are going to detract though they be worthy of much attention themselves.

Many of us women are teurs, if not actual bunglers, when it comes to the use of colour. We go down to defcat in red when we could have triumphed in blue.
