PUNTERS BADLY HIT.
London, Mar, 24.
The scratching of Easter Hero, the Grand National favourite, has caused a sensation in racing cir cles. The betting on the race has twice been upset, first by an acel dent to Easter Tero, and then by the poor showing of Gregalach, last year's winner.
Easter Hero had only just been restored to favouritism when the effects of his mishap returned and
occasioned the scratching.

Hopes had been dashed and then revived. After an encouraging re- port of yesterday's gallop and the re-hoisting of Easter Hero into the position of favourite, came the news in less than an hour afterwards, that he would be scratched.
The main point of interest in the meeting was reached when Mr. A. E. Marker, rose to move his resolu- tion on the subject of the Tung

ABDUCTION IN PARIS.
Paris, Mar. 24. French interest has been arous- ed in the sensational abduction of General Koutepoff, who was kid- napped in the streets of Paris by Soviet agents at the end of January, and smuggled out of the country, by a report to the effect that the General at present is in prison in Moscow.
According to the newspaper La Liberate, General Koutepoff is in Lubianskaia Prison. The paper declared that he was embarked on a small steamer at a quiet spot along the French coast near Houlgate and taken to Russia, in conformity with the Soviet Government's intention to arraign him and some of his coadjutors, with the object of proving that the French Government is im plicated in an anti-Soviet con- spiracy-Reuter,

Beyond this, Mr. Marker drew attention to the fact that the illegal pccuplers of the property refused to pay the rates and their water bills, so that the ratepayers were losing about $10,000 a year.
