IMPORTANCE OF

CHARACTER.

CENTRAL BRITISH SCHOOL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION.

THE O.A.G.'S SPEECH.

The value of character was stressed by Mr. G. Franklin Nightingale at the annual distri. bution of prizes of the Central. British School, hold in the Hall of St. Andrew's Church, Kowloon," Inst evening, when His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government (the Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn) presented the awards to the pupils.

His Excellency was accompanied by Mr. J. Barrow, Private Secretary, while His Excellency the G.O.C., Major General J. W. Sandilands, accompanied by hie staff officers, was also among those present. Supporters of the school also occupied sesta

Headmaster's Report.

The Headmaster, in his annual report, said in part:

The School was opened on 192 days. The maximum number on the roll was 194-173 in 1928-the average attendance during the whole year being 141-131 in 1923. The attendance was generally good in spite of an epidemic of chickea. pox and other infectious disease.

The results of the University Examinations this year were good. We entered two candidates for the Martriculation Examination of the University of London and in June we received the news that E. L. Hayes had been successful in passing. In the Examinations of the University of Hongkong, held in November, six candidates of the Sixth Form passed, all with distinc- of whom tion in English, three

the Matriculation were awarded and three the Senior Local Certi

ficate. The

prize was again won."
