South China, Kowloon and the Navy qualified for the semi-finals of the Senior Shield Competition on Saturday, the Somersets and Chinese Athletic failing to reach #decision. The keenness of all the teams engaged may be judged from the fact that in no case was victory obtained by a margin of more than one goal. The most
exciting match whs seen on the Club ground where the Navy found themselves two goals In arrears some ten minutes before the Interval. It is decidedly up hill work
to get three gouls against the Club defence, but with the aid of a penalty and extra time, the Navy just managed it,
In the Junior Shield, the Somer- sets meeting the Navy for the fourth time in the second round, won by three goals to one. Kow- loon, Eastern and Chinese "B" qualined for the semi-final by winning their second round matches.

The Somersets lasted the game much better than the Chinese, but failed to score in spite of long pressure in the extra time.
The Athletic forwards were not
quite up to the mark, and I am to thinkt that they inclined sacrificed their chances by desert
their usual clever style for ere bustle and dash. The right wing particularly carried this to excesi, very often resorting to something suspiciously akin to dangerous play.
Hayward was the better of the Somersets' backs, and Harris was the outstanding half. Forward, all did well in apuronel work, hut the finishing was poor.

It was an extraordinary game in many respects. At one stage the Club held a lead of two clear goals, the second quito against the run of the play, Bell having anapped up two opportunities splendidly. The Navy applied very strong pressure and before half-time, Tilley scored with a great drives

The second half was nearly all -- Navy," but their forwards showed the need of the shooting practice they obtained for they simply could not apply the finish- ing touch and, as related, it was not until five minutes from the end that they equalised. Potts, who filled Lhe centreforward position, atoned for some bad blunders, by netting the “winner": in the extra time. Wallington had ignored the ball and gone to the assistance of an injured Navy player.
Clark, still the Colony's best ustodian, made his first appear aner for the Polier this season and to him, more than to any other player, is credit due for Kowloon's failure to obtain more than one goal.
