My Lord Bishop. Mr. and Mrs. de Mariin,-On behalf of the Rev. Mother and the Staff of the Italian Convent, I welcome you here this morning. I also avail myself of this opportunity, Mr. and Mrs. de Martin, to express our pleasure in accing you with us again, after your long absence in Europe.

The Headmistress hus assigned to me the duty of reading the annual report, for the last year, of the Convent School. I undertake the task with much pleasure, especially because of the marked successes the School has attained in the University Examinations, and because of the most favourable re port made by the Inspector of Eng- Hah Schools.

Attendances:--The average dally attendance numbered 430. The highest enrolment was attained in the month of October, when there were 452 names of Puplis in the School's Register.

Prizes are given as rewards, it is true. Those who have won them must get their full measure of credit and praise. But prizes are not merely rewards, they are en- couragements to further effort. All cannot win prizes, all cannot be first, but all can sirive. It is to urge the girls on to this further effort that we are here for a prize. giving day in the Convent. The efforts thus made in school are the seed of future efforts in life.

It is inter on. In their apparently different life, that the great work of the Sisters and the efforts made in the class room, bear fruit. On the solid foundation of unselfish. neas, portrayed in the Sisters, the firm edifice of a good Christian and social life is built it is this good Christian and social life that the Sisters of the Italian Convent alm at teaching the girls to live.

Three of four students this year have taken up a course at the local University in the Faculty of Arts, and

we hope that in the near future many more will follow their example. The progress of the young lady undergraduates in the University will be watched with keen, interest by all teachers and friends of the Italian Convent School.

With a view to widening their knowledge, the pupils, during the course of the year, were taken by their teachers to various places of interest. There was a visit to the Italian Gunboat Libia, and pupils were also given an op portunity to see motion picturea, of educational worth,

It might also be remarked that the pupils took part in the annual sparts of St. Joseph's College.""
