WHAT MILEAGE SHOULD THE AVERAGE TYRE, GIVE ?
1 Then a motorist bays a gallou, of gasolina ho knows that in pro- viding a good gasoline of a reput ablë brand, he is buying a certain amount of potential energy, which will carry his car a given distance, Similarly a tyre—if it is a good type, of a reputable make-repre- senta a certain potential mileage.
Assuming that the tyra equip ment is adequate for the total load, what this mileage will be depends

How Better Mileage Can be Oblained.
יי,
The quality of first-grade tyres, such as Dunlop, is as good as years of experience and scientifically- perfected manufacture can make [them.
Very defnite advantages can be galned by the use of oversize tyres, and it is proved that, other things [being equal, oversize tyres give extra mileage which more than justifies the extra cost. In addi- tlon tyres of specially heavy con- struction, are capable of giving considerably greater mileages. They also have a greater resozvo of strength, and are thus much less susceptible to nccidental

PLANES GET SKIS FOR SNOW.
A now type of ski for airplanes makes them "snowphibians.” They resemble pontoons attached to seaplanse 'and amphibian planes. They aro special slotted skis, strong enough to absorb the landing impact of planes weighing from three to eight tons. A part of the wheel extends below the bottom of the ski, to Hermit a regular landing, and this does not interfere with a plano's landing in a heavy fall of snow. This snowphibian has been perfected by the Boeing System and has been installed on mall plane between Chicago and San Francisco.
