CLUB DEFEAT A NAVY SIDE. YESTERDAY.
Although it was very muddy yester- day afternoon, the game on the Club ground, when the Club ran out win- hers by one goal and four Erlez (17 points) ta one goal (5 points), was extraordinarily fast, and only on occasion did it revert to a purely-for- ward encounter. The ball was given plenty of air, and the passing, in most
instances, was very sure

Although exchanges were even in the early stages, both sides misseded the pressure, chances of scoring, but Potts, from a Sheara came aut to clear from paas by Pearson, opened the account Gowans and McGlinchey sent Everest for Bruce. Malkin equalised later in in and he beat MeHardy with a fast the first half, taking the ball on his cross shot. The Police worked through own from half-way, beating both backs on the right and after Shears bind and sending in a shot out of Barnes' saved, Carnwall returned over the har. rench.
Another shot from the right gave Shears a lot of trouble and a tussle with him, Rogers and Bentley ended in favour of the K.O.S.B. keeper. Fraser stopped Torrie and sent. Bent- ley away but Martin cleared.
The erond half consisted of end- to-end play, with both real-mouths being visited in turn. Just before the end, Darrell was fortunate to clear from shots by Potts and Joynes.

MeGlinchey was pulled up for off- side, and Fraser later miskicked to let in Everest, who beat Mellardy from cluse range.

The side turned out by the Club contained, in most departments, some of the players journeying to Shang- lial for the. Interport game. The Navy side was not as strong as the Navy side which was played in the Triangular Tournament.
The ball was gery greasy, and this nude it difficult to hold, but both sides gave and took remarkably good passes. Bonnar, in particular sent out some beautiful passes from the base of the scrum, working well with Scolt, The Club three's had plenty of the ball, and so, for that matter, did the Navy outsides. Hutchison slightly injured about the head in the carly part of the game, and was not 60 sure as usual in taking or giving the ball. The best wing on the field was that provided by Churchill and Lummert
Smallwood was very fast on the Navy left wing, and was unlucky not to score a try after dribbling the ball a long way, only, when it had been taken over the line, to have a Club player come back to kick it to the dead-ball ground. Evans, at right centre was prominent in the first half, but had not the same chances inter on. The best three-quarter on the Navy side was. Massey. When play became a forward struggle, there was little to choose between the rival packs, both making fine rushes, and Paddon and Beamish were the pick of the Navy scrums, the latter fun- ning very hard and
and thrustfully on several occasions. For the Club, West, Massey, Burch and Maxwell played up well, the latter seizing many opportunities to make a lot of ground,
