GOLF CLUB ANNUAL MEETING.

EXTENSION OF COURSE AT FANLING.

VALLEY CLUBHOUSE.

Two important resolutions were approved at the annual meeting of the members of the Royal Hong- kong Golf Club held in Messrs. Jardine Matheson's Board Room last evening. I was decided to authorise the Committed to pro- ceed with the formation of alne extra boles d Fanling and to nequire additional land for this purpose, and to erect a Club house. at Happy Valley@

Mr. Greenhill, who presided over the meeting, was supported by the. following members of the General Committee: Messrs. L. R. Andrewes, HUIreland. K. S. Morrison, J. D. Kinnaird, N. 1. Smith, H. G. Sheldon, C. L. Sandes and Licut-Colonel B. D.

the adoption of the report and 20- counts as presented, and in doing so Thould like to congratulate the mem- bers on the excellent position of the Club.

This is, of course, the result, | primarily, of the patronage by mem- born and subscribers and so long as the Club is well supported it stands a good chance of maintaining its ox- cellent position.

It must be remembered, however, that is only one side of the caso and it requires to be supplemented by good management. In this respect the club is fortunate and the thanks of members are due to the hard- working secretary and staff.

I have no particular remarks, to make about the accounts, excepting to say that, the form in which they are presented in excellent.

I have much pleasure in seconding the aduntion of the report and de

WEDNESDAY,

I believe there are quite a number of members who at present refrain from going out on Sundays and Hol days simply because of the congestion and these could then be accommodati ed.

I think there is little else that 1 can say on the matter except to thoroughly recommend the scheme. which I feel sure you will not regret If carried out.

An Urgent Matter.

The resolution'was seconded by “Mr. A. II. Ferguson. He urged that bx- tension was the right step to take as the course was absolutely congested every Sunday. Starting times were

omg up and linde renched 12.30. They might be starting at three o'clock in the afternoon and perhans at eight o'clock at aleht in future the opinion that the cont of the land (laughter), Mr. Ferguson expressed

was very reasonable. There was A tendancy for the game of golf to be. come more popular. He was glad that new members did not have t wait nine or ten years before they could get into the Club as was tha case in some places.

L

Mr. Ferguson said he was sure that the extension would make a consider. able difference. He thought it would be very nice for the Golf Club to ha able to go on allowing meinbership to increase rather than to put a stop os membership and thereby prevent younger members from Laking golf. The Committee ought to ha encouraged in its proposal and be urged to go ahead at once. It was an urgent matter and he considered it was essential that whole-hearted support should be given to it. (AD- plause).

The proposal was then put to the meeting and was carried.

Happy Valley Clubhouse,

The Chairman proposed "That the Committer be authorised to acquire a site and erect a Club house at Happy Valley and to enter into all contracts and take all other steps necessary for this purpose and also to borrow for the Anid purpose a sum not ex ceeding $30,000 to be secured upon all or part or the property of the Club In auch manner and at 'such a rate of interest as the Committee shall in their absolute, discretion think fit." He said:

The present 3rd hole would thus become the 12th. A full size course of rather more than 6,000 yards can thus be obtained and from my knowledge of the new ground, which I have been over many times during the last eight years, I think you would get a very interesting and sporting course with little if any duplication or similarity in the individual holes,

in seconding the proposition, Mr. 3. W. Franks said he did so, with pleasure. As far as Happy Valley was concerned, he thought it was de airable that they should have a Club house there because ladies used the the Chairman had pointed out there course quite a lot in the mornings. As
