An Enormous Capital. Mr. Cress then explained how General Motors was established 20 yeara ago with acapital $10,000,000 ns an amalgamation of the Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac automobile companies, and how it now commands a expital of over $4,000,000,000 and produces 12 different lines of motor cars and trucka.
The volume of its yearly export business alone attained $280,000,000 in 1928, and products of General Motors are favourably known and used in 114 countries of the world.. 1
China at present has more than 6,000 General Motors cars and trucks, and of these over 1,500 were imported during the first six months of the year. "Of special interest to China in this respect Is the New Chevrolet, declared Mr. Cress, “and, due to its excep- tional economy in purchase price. and operating expenses, this car is eminently suited to the country's conditions." The New Chevrolet in a six-cylinder car selling in the price range of a four, and is powered by a new engine which delivers very great power and 'speed at an exceptionnily low fuel consumption of better than 20 miles per gallon of gasoline. The New Chevrolet has met with a most enthusiastic publie reception throughout the world, more, than 1,000,000 Chevrolet passenger cara and trucks having been produced and distributed during the first height months of this year.
Through the establishing of assembly plants, and branches in many parts of the world. General Motors offers a world-wide service and distribution organization. The number of such General Motora overeens operations has already reached 24, the latest addition to that ist having come with the purchase of the Optl Works in Germany and the estab Ishment of General Motors China Inc.

Two Branches in China. This latest operation will consist of two branches-ane in Shanghai' to cover the needs of Central China' and the other in Manchuria to look after the requirements of North China, Manchuria and Outer Mongolia..
Although General Motors does not market its products directly but deals with the public through a system of dealers, the duties of these branches will be of a varied and extensive nature.
Each branch will maintain a warehouse where it will carry a neccessary stock of cars and trucks, so as to be able to attend to the public demand without the delay that was customary when cars had to be ordered directly from the United States. More- over the brunches will maintain a huge stock of parla valued at! several hundred thousands of dollars, a facility that will be greatly appreciated by every motor car owner or truck, operator in China, where, owing to difficult road conditions, replacement needa are particularly heavy.
Each branch will also have a well-organized service department. the expert staff of which will for operate a service Achool mechanics and will assist in every way General Motora dealers to establish the most up-to-date ser- vico facilities. for owners of General Motors products,
