PROCEEDS EXCEED THOSE OF LAST YEAR,

From an early hour in the morn- ing lady volunteers were on the stroct with baskets full of red pappies which were being sold at a rapid rate, few people being seen with their button holos unadorned with at least one flower,

The total

amount collected through this source has not yet been determined by the committee but the figure available yesterday showed an increase over that of last year, when the figure of $6,500 was reached.

On the Island alone the figure yesterday amounted to $3,889, while from Kowloon approximately $2,000 was received by the commit tee as against a total of about. $1,400 last year. Excluding col lections from Homuntin the main land contributed $1,935 towards. the fund through the selling of popples on the streets,

The results of the sale of. pop- pies on Cheung Chau hove not yet been received. When all the figures are available the total should reach $6,000.
