CORRESPONDENCE.
The Broadcasting Concert.
[To The Editor of Hongkong
Telegraph.]
Sir, Two letters appeared in Saturday's S. C. M. Post, describing as "carping" and "ll-advised criticism my comments on the first Broadcasting concert in the Hong Long Telegraph "Musical Jottinga last week.
|ENJOYABLE · CONCERT,
BRIGHT" ENTERTAINMENT AT WESLEYAN HOME.
It was a great pity that the ex- cellent concert given by the "Whizz- Concert Party at the Rangs" Sailors, and Soldiers' Homa on Saturday night was appreciated by so small an audience. The efforts of the artistes comprising this de lightful little party were really fine, and the fact that so few people thought them worth patronising is to be deplored.
For the past four years the Jot tinga have dealt with most local concerts of importance and this is

produced by wireless. I sought information as to what proportion of listeners got a perfect reproduc tion of the artists' singing and playing. An appeal was made over the air at the concert Inviting reports from listeners, whether satisfied or not, and all that I have asked is that a resume of the reports received be made public.
(1) Admittedly the loud-speaker in the control-room is "indescrib- ably better" than the one where the select audience was gathered together. I have already conced. ed in fairness that on some aets the concert came through well. My contention was that if the items came through ao unsatisfac- torily on the Studio's own loud- speaker, installed for the benefit of the Committee, performers and press representatives, it is pro- bable that the artists' efforts were distorted in quite a large number of other places. Although Orgella thinks the results "quite good" in that room, it was not the opinion of most of those present, and any one with a set equally unsatisfac- tory was justified in making such remarks as were quoted in the
Taking as his text the verses from the Romans. "We know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. The earnest expectation of creation waiteth for the revealing of the Sons of God," Mr. Koop de- livered an earnest sermon, in which he spoke of the Importance of Hospital Sunday in the Church. His Excellency the Officer Ad- ministering the Government (Hon. | Jottings. Mr. W. T. Southorn) was present (2) The phrase should have during the service, and many read: "They (the artists) are medical men were observed among for the most part in the dark as the large congregation. Miss Medina's efforts were very much appreciated. She has a good voice, and gave "Sonny Boy" so well that everyone forgot the fact that it had been drummed them by everything from orchestraa to barrel-drgans for six months or mere and received it with great ovation. Sergeant Heatherington in character sketches from the works of Dickens delighted the audience, and proved himself an actor of no mean ability. Several interesting little playettes lent variety to the show, while the musical side of the entertainment left nothing to be desired. The full programme.
