HEALTH BOARD,
SANITARY BOARD WANTS INFORMATION,
At to-morrow's meeting of the Sanitary Board, Mr. M. K. Lo will ask the following questions:
"With reference to the remarks made on the subject of a proposed Advisory Health Board in the re- cent Budget Debate in the Legia- lative Council, as reported in the newspapers, will the Head of the Sanitary Department Inform the Board:
1. Whether he has received any official information from the Government in regard to this matter, and if so, whether he will make a statement to this Board?
il. Whether it is the intention of the Government to abridge by legislation the executive powers and functions of the Sanitary Board, as set forth in Part II, of the Public, Health and Buildings Ordin- ance. No. 1 of 19037

Prior to the opening ceremony, Mr. Lin Hoy-lan, after welcoming Mrs. Rotewall, explained that the Sisters of the, Convent had many old and puor people in their care at Shumshuipo and they had no other income than that received by way of donations, augmented by the profits of the annual bazaar.
Mr. Kotewall's Speech, Mrs. Kotewall in opening the bazaar, said that she did a with much pleasure as on previous necasions Lady Clementi and Mrs. Southern had performed that office, and also because the Sistern of the Convent were doing splendid work on behalf of the poor. She con tinued that she had been asked by the
sisters to thank Lady Clementi for consenting to be
Patran of the bazuar and also for a donation. She also wished to thank the Hon. Mr. A. C. Hynes, Mr. Fung Ping-shian and others, local firms and companies for gifts | and donations. The Sisters were also indebted to the headmaster of Wah Yan. College for placing the playground and hall at the dis- posal of the committee and in the students for assistance in selling
tickets
In conclusion, Mrs. Kotewall said that more donations had been received this year than last year, and the Convent would benefit in proportion, She expressed the hope that the bazaar would be. equally successful.
Mrs, Kotowall then declared the bazaar open by undoing a ribbon bow which was tied round the neck of a glass jar containing lottery tickets.
Mr. Calthrop replied that it was not because they had not sufficient evidence, but there were certain events which had occurred. He did not know if it was necessary to mention them. . The matter would be dealt with department- ally.

In reply to his Worship, tr. Calthrop said that one of the con- Stables who had been concerned in the case was being dealt with low partmentally and it was thought beat therefore that the charges he dropped,

it might be a coincidence or it might be that the material that Shirts were made of was not very strong, but his Worship said that he must say he could not help being a little suspicious about it and from that point of view he was rather glad the case had been withdrawn.

Whether it is intended by the Government that the proposed Advisory Board is to function independently of the Sanitary Board, and in any case whether it will tender advice only upun subjects which are not within the scope of that Ordinance? and
iv. In view of the fuct that this mutter gravely affects the question of public, health' of; "the Colony and therefore vitally concerns this Board, will he make the necessary representations to the Govern- ment that this Board be given due, opportunity for express ing its Views on any proposed legislative changes affecting the public health of the Colony?"

Mr. M. K. Lo' has given notice to move:
That this Board desires to put appreciation of the valuable ser- vices rendered, and the ability, energy and zeal displayed, by Dr. H. A. Fawcett whilst acting as Medient Officer of Health.”

"Is it the intention of the Government that the money voted by Legislative Council for the erection of a market at Kowloor Tong in 1929 shall lapse if it is found impossible to proceed with the work this year, or will, it we den y re-voted in 1930?"

The stalls were presided over by girl and boys from various local schools. "
