MURDER OF INDIAN PREMIER'S VISIT TO HOST OF SOCCER

CONSTABLE.

ANGLO-AMERICAN NAVAL GIRL WITNESS KEEPS

DISCUSSIONS.

MARGIN OF DIFFERENCE NOW

VERY NARROW.

CRUISER STRENGTHS.

Both Great Britain and the United States are determined to reach an agreement much larger in spirit than merely a naval agreement, according to an official spokesman of the British Government, who comprehensively reviewed the Anglo-Ameri- can naval disarmament negotiations, yesterday.

The much-vexed cruiser problem has already been reduced

to a very narrow margin of disagreement, as will be seen from the following summary of proposed cruiser strengths:—

GREAT BRITAIN.

Fifteen cruisers armed with 8-inch guns. Thirty-five cruisers armed, with 6-inch guns. Aggregate displacement: 339,000 tons.

UNITED STATES.

Twenty-one cruisers armed with 8-inch guns. Fifteen cruisers armed with. 6-inch guns. Aggregate displacement: 315,000 tons.

Britain, however, does not view the American proposal with favour, and suggests that the number of American heavy cruisers be reduced to eighteen, only three in excess of Britain's. On both sides of the Atlantic, confidence is felt that the difficulty can be overcome at the Five-Power Conference, which it is hoped will be held in London in January next year.
