WOMAN'S WORLD

FOR OUR LADY READERS.

Why I Keep My Freedom.

[By Modern Young Man.].

A modern

girl says that

marriage is all to the advantage of the modern bachelor.

I am one,

and the only one left of four friends. We kept in touch with, each other more on less through our school and college days and during the war, from which we were all fortunate enough to energe without permanent damage. We shared two bachelor flats in couples and settled down to our work in the world. It was

nat arduous for any of us, and

though not rich we had a pretty Rood time. We enjoyed our work with minds free from financial worry, and were often able to give a helping hand to those less. for- tunafe than ourselves. We were all sportsmen, our families had country plees, we had heaps of friends, and we certainly had a fine life.

Then three of us fell in love!

*

One married his typist. A nice enough little girl, lint not one to encourage her husband in a gay life. She is all for saving for the family. A good aim no doubt, but geing. So he has settled down into paterfamilias, and talks of nothing but gardening and golf.

The second married a friend of his sisters. She knew all his old haunts and all his friends, but had never been able to keep up with, them through lack of cash. Neither can he do so now, because although he had enough for one to lead a gay life on. he has not enough for Evo to do the same. So both are discontented.

The third married a wealthy girl who had always moved in much more extravagant cireles than he. She has, the money to do so still, and does, while he struggles to keep his end, up and yet preserve his independence.

They all three married for love. They all swear they wouldn't goj back, but they all have a wistful look in their eyes at times, Chit- dren ny help, but only one has any. Of the other wives, can't afford, and one won't!

A palo pink faille taffeta frock had a light bodice, leg-o'- mutton aleeves and a full skirt with a deep quilted border in silver and gold threads weaving a gorgeous pattern of big wild roses and leaves. The list was a modified poke bonnet of fue open-work straw, with velvet strings tied under one car.

Another hat of fine white. Swiss braid featured the under- the-brim trim, in the form of a spray of colourful roses.
