WINE SMUGGLING..
MASTER OF SILAUKIWAN
SHOP DISAPPEARS.
Ad extraordinary charge of smuggling into the Colony a largo consignment of wine disguised as native wine that had been duly checked and regulated at a local distillery, was heard before Mr. T. M. Hazlerigg at the Central Police Court ýesterday afternoon.
The defendants were the master and foki of a small trading junk alleged to have been used to bring the spirits Into the Colony, and two other Chinese, who were defended by Mr. Hin-shing Lo and who were described by him as employees of a native wine denler.

Discovery on a Junk,
Upon his arrival, C.P.O. Clark mrded a junk, No. 2092 V., in the Saiwanho Anchorage, on board of which re discovered 22 jars of spirits of wines which bore the green duly lubels issued by the Revenue Office. It was noted that the four jars that were stopped in transit had he same green labels, while the identical serial numbers which all of them bore, showed that they had been issued at one time.
Explaining the point further, Mr. Grimmitt said that the green labels had been issued for the native wine termed seung ching, and their appearance on th: Jars would have led one to expect that they contained that class of wino only, and not spirits of wing on
