The arrest of a young Chinese on a charge of stealing a jacket Shangini from the house coolle employed at

the Oflicers' Mess in Granville Road led to the apprehension of anolber youth in the employ of a Filipina of Victorin View, on a

charge of stealing a silk shirt her longing to his master.

The lads were severally charged before Mr. T. S. Whyte Smith at Kowloon Magistracy this the morning and both pleaded guilty.

Detective Sergeant Humphreys said the first lad was seen to take the jacket from the verandab of the Officers Mess, Several pawn tickets were found on him, one of which related to the silk shirt. The arrest of the second youth was the result Information volunteered by the first lad. The shirt hod been pledged by the second de- fetchint.

In the case of the first, his Wor ship imposed a fine of $10 of 1 days hard labour, while the second was sentenced to month's hard labour,
