Mr. L. M. Whyte, principal of Messrs. Donnelly and Whyte, who died at the French Hospital on Friday following an operation for appendicitis, was laid to rest in The Protestant Cemetery on Satur. day afternoon, the Very Rev." A. Swann officiating.

The whole of the French Colony appeared to be assembled in the beautiful drawing room of the French Consul's residence at the Peak yesterday for the celebration of the greatest day in French his- tory-the 14th of July, when tho Bastille, stronghold, of tyranny, fell before the long pent up fury of a Paris mob.
