On Friday morning the com- petitors, reduced to 29, made for Renfrew, from where they flew to Dunbar and then south to the starting point, Heston aerodrome.

Flying in a Galo.

Flying in a wind which reached galo force and was at unes necom- panied by violent rain, competitors in the race over the course of 1,170 miles had exclting experiences. The first stage to Blackpool was 500 miles long and competitors later flew the remainder of the distance back to the starting point at Heaton.

Several of the competitors sold they were heavily bruised from the lossing their machines received and that if they had not been strapped in they might on many occasions have been ibrown out.

Cochet won the Men's Singles without extending himself, He seemed worried by the merriment caused by the Basque's manner- not lems but his strokes word, affected. He made the minimum of mistakes and put away the Basquo's half volleys to both flanks in superb manner. Borotra often put the ball into the net and twice foot-faulted. He was also guilty of double faults, but nevar- theless had the sympathy of the 18 crowd.
