London, July 7. There was a remarkable finish to the King's Cup Air Race, which won by Flight-Lieutenant Atcherley in a Gloster Grebe Jaquar aeroplane, the winner crossing the line less than a second before the Moth

maching of Lieutenant Richardson, Royal Navy.
They arrived at Heston during a violent rainstorm, swooping down together out of the black clouds.
There was almost an equally close finish between the third arrival, Captain W. L. Hope who won the race in 1927 and 1928, and Mr. A S. Butler both flying a Qikay Moth. Captain T. N. Stack who led on the first day of the race arrived abortly afterwards.
The winner, Atcherley and his navigator, Flight-Lieutenant Stain- forth, are both members of the British Schneider trophy team and are in training for the great in race next ternational seaplane September. The winner's average speed over the whole course of 1,170 miles was 160.3 miles an hour, a record for the course. The average speed by Lleutenant Richardson was 100.2 miles per hour, a very re- markable performance on the long course in windy weather for a light machine.
All three women competitors, Mias W. 1. Spooner, Lady Bailey and Mrs. A. S. Butler, whose husband finished fourth, completed the
course.
Yesterday, Lord Thomson the Minister for Air, flew to Heston Air Park where the race finished and formally declared it open. It promises in becote one of the main private flying centres near London. -British Wireless,
MARRIAGE LICENCE REFUSED
IN MANILA.
ARE THEY "SINGLE?"
Manlin, July 3.
Are the Yangco twina single, in accordance with the legal inter- pretation of a person's civil status in the Philippines? If they are not "single," then what are they? This is the intricate legal knot which local courts may be called upon to untangle. In connexion with the proposed marriage of Lucio and Simplicio Godino, the famous "Siamese" twins, who have filed application for a double marriage licence with the muntel- pal court of Manila.
