CANTON AMATEUR THEATRICALS.
SOCIETY HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING..
Canton, June 29. The annual general meeting of the Canton Amateur Theatrical Society was held last evening in the Canton Club.
Yen Hai-chan is also reported to have demanded that Chiang Kai- shek restore to Feng Yu-helang the various appointments he held with the Central Government, and invlie Feng to attend a conference at Nanking.
- Yen's Position.
The Shansi- lender, it is stated, also expressed his firm belief in the necessity for Fong Yu-hetang and himself simultaneously retiring from the Central Government, leaving Chiang Kai-shek a clear feld in the direction of military
affairs.
It is still regarded as extremely doubtful that Yen and Feng really intend to leave China..
Later.
Many boats and junks arriving at Woosung, therefore, are seen carrying red dings which have been given to them by the pirates. In the event of attacks by pirate bonts, they have only to wave these flags and they will be accorded protec tion.
In this connexion, it is of inter- est to note that gane of bandits, about 600 strong, are making their presence felt at Bankajao and Tau- poo, on the Yanglaze, about 130 H from Shanghai. This gang is under the leadership of Sung Li-sz and Seng Hal-sai, two notorious crimin- als, and it consists mostly of dis- banded troops. So far, no action has been taken by the local authori Ities to suppress them.

The Committee apologised for not having arranged to hold the annual general meeting in April, as provided for in the 'Constitution. This delay was caused by an attempt to produce a vaudeville show last month; but unfortunate ly, owing to divers reasons, this show was never staged. Notwith- standing this failure, the past senson had been decidedly success- ful. The production in December of "A Pair of Silk Stockings" was received with enthusiasm by the audience and was a distinct success financially.
