The discussion on the water altuation then terminated.

Mr. Braga's Protest. Hon. Mr. Braga's letter, referred to above, was as follows:

Dear Sir, I beg to hand you herewith enclosed, for your formation, copy of a letter, dated 17th June. I have addressed to the Chairman of the Sanitary Sub- Committee of the Water Emer- gency Committee regarding polluted water in the Magazine Nullah at Wanchai.

He said that even his friends had spoken to him in connexion with the opening of welis, suggest-partment. ing that they had been operied al- though the Sanitary Board had de elded that they should not be opened. That, said the President, was the result of a misreading of the revolution tendered at the last meeting of the Board and also of the arguments put forward. He pointed out that the resolution was that the Board should recommend the Government to instruct the Building Authority as a temporary measure, to approve every applica- tion for the sinking and re-opening of wells except. in cases where existing structures might be en- dangered. Je pointed out that there was no opposition to new wells being opened.

"Not Above Suspicion." With regard to nullah supplies, Mr. Carrie said that samples had been taken which had been sub- ject to chemical and bacterio- Togical tests. They were not above suspicion in many casus. They were allowed to continue for a time for the purpose of providing water for cleaning purposes, notices being posted up warning the inhabitants of the Colony that the water must be bolled or that It wnn unfit for drinking purposes. He understood that supplies from nullahs had now stopped,

The Medical Officer of Health was working in close conjunction with the Director of Medical and Sanitary Services and the Public Works Department was also work-| Ing with the Hon. Dr. Wellington.

Mr. Carrie súld that at a confer erice on Saturday he was asked to second three Sanitary Inspectora for work in connexion with the examination of water supplied to the tanks on the water front. Three inspectors were now work- ing on this with the Government. Analyst.
