They liberated a rabbit, and when it was about 35 yards away they released two greyhounds. The two dogs went in pursuit, fol- lowed by a third dog which broke loose, and the rabbit was quickly overtaken.

Then ensued a tug-of-war be- tween the dogs, and the rubbit was killed.

Counsel added that rabbit coursing was permitted by law under certain conditions, but here the animal was hunted in an en- closed space, where there were no holes, so that it had no reasonable chance to escape.

Mr. Mend: It was cruelty? Counsel: Absolutely. It was a disgusting spectacle.

An Inspector of the R.SP.C.A. Baid Garcia told him that he had three young greyhounds that he thought of racing on the track, and as they had never seen a live rabbit he thought he would give them one,

"CANNOT BELIEVE HIS EVIDENCE.*

"I regret that once Again police officer-though, I am glad to say, not on duty-has brought a charge which is quite unfounded and has given evidence on oath which I cannot believe."

Mr. Marshall, the West London magistrate, made this remark re- cently when dismissing a charge against Sydney Solomon, 30, a bookmaker, of assaulting P. C. James Watson on May 11.

The Coroner expressed the hope that the public would not touch pieces of aeroplanes in future, né. cidents. na important evidence might be destroyed.

Percy Maxwell Muller, Superin; tendent of Vickers. Aviation, Ltd.,.. said that it was obvious that Bhorratt jumped from the machine.

NEW FLAG PROBLEM IN IRELAND.

·ULSTER ATHLETES AND OLYMPIC GAMES.

Dublin, Muy 20. After an all-night siting, lasting until nearly 6 a.m., the counch of the Irish Amateur Swimming As- sociation failed to agree upon the choice of a flag under which Irish swimmers can compete at the next Olympic Games.

Northern Ireland delegates. eald their representatives could not com- peto under the Free State. flag, which they regarded as a rebel flag. Ono Ulster delegate urged the adoption of a 'plain green fing with a harp in the centre.

The matter arose on a resolution moved by Mr. J. Goss (Ulster) re- questing the council to recommend to the Olympic and Tailteann coun- ells that only a national flag symbolic of all Ireland should bo used, and that the council should not permit swimmera under. Its jurisdiction to compete in future games unless their recommendation was accepted.

It was finally decided to adjourn the question until the next con- gress, the official, in the meantime, to go fully into the matter and ro port,
