The Motor Car and the Camel.

A camel track across the desert is not an ideal motoring rond. It is usually full of ruits and frequent- ly interrupted by dry water couracs, clumps of stunted bushes, and is often thickly Interspersed with stones and boulders in certain sections. In other parts, soft: yielding sand offera a serious abstacle to mechanical transport.

Recently a model 520 standard Fiat touring car started out from Port Sudan to reach Tokar. Many previous attempts at negotiating this desert track by car had failed utterly, Some had succeeded after a struggie tasting nine, ten or even more hours.

The Flat 620 completed this exceptionally arduous journey in a little over four hours, and after a brief halt at Tokar; returned triumphantly to Port Sudan, arriv- ing in perfect mechanical condi- tion.

For the second time, Mr. L. Groenkgvist has won the Swedish Winter Cup, valued at 6,000 erowns, in a race held over 715 [miles of narrow ice-bound roads in such condition that frequently the competitors had to drive on low gear for several hours in success- sion.
