And Twin Ignition power is only one many new motoring luxuries. Without exception, those who drive the "400" say it is the easiest car to control they have ever tried. Big hydraulic shock absorbers, bumpers front and rear, and cen tralized chassis lubricationare regular equipment. Without the usual penalty of high price, here is the most luxurious type of motoring. Ask those who have driven it!

Thus not only is this space, keretofore practically waste, utilized, but the arrangement permits of accessibil, ity such as has never before been available in such engines.

New Valve Arrangement, The valves are horizontal and,]· together with the design of the cylinder block and head, from what is termed a quasi-overhead valve arrangement. As a result

quicker cooling of the lubricant.

Besides this provision for great- er oil cooling, there is a new type of oil pan grooved along the bot- tom so as to afford additional cooling surface for the ofl. This grooved oil pan also includes an- other feature entirely new in au tomotive design-a form of "fish indder" or series of cross strips which form troughs at the bottom of the pan so as to trap destruc- tive sediment and foreign parti- eles from the oil.

Another Innovation is the large downdraft manifold reaching over the engine so as to permit the fuel mixture to Bow down to the com- bustion chambers aided by gravity, This form of manifold has been found much more effective than the straight type heretofore used. In addition, the intake manifold is so constructed that the intake. valves are equally distant from the carburetor, thus eliminating, the chances of "starving" some cylin- ders in favour of others and, as- at all suring equal combustion times.

Controlled Hol Spot, The exhaust manifold is brought over the intake from the left side so as to furnish a hot spot to pre- heat the gases in the centre of the intake manifold. This hot spot is) controlled from the dash.

The Viking crankcase ventila- tion system is designed to prevent seepage of gasoline into the crank- case or moisture' created by com- bustion. The air is drawn in from a breather at the bottom and is circulated over the oil and upward to the carburetor. The. moisture and oil spray brought up by this current of air is of great help to proper carburetion.

The entire motor block is cast In one plece, the first time a V. eight block has been manufactured this way. This has enabled ongi- neers to put into it strong cross braces and ribbing that increase solid its rigidity and form a foundation for the large crank- shaft bearings,

The power obtained from this motor reaches 81 horsepower at the average running speed of 3000 revolutions a minute. "In a recent tost for newspapermen, the car was driven at varying speeds up to.88 miles an hour, without a perceptible vibration in it. Yet the motor seemed to have power to go even faster.
