Mr. Brutton-You say that Ah Lung was in the house and yet you handed the money over to defen- dants? He refused to take it.

Why in the name of goodness didn't you pay the money to 'Ab Lung when you saw him in the house-He refused it.

Why did he refuse?--How do I know!

Had he refused before?-Never. Mr. Brutton concluded that the whole story was a tissue of lica.

Witness Bald it could not be; he had told the same story to the Inspector. Since Ah Lung refused to take the money at the cubicle he had not since refused.

Kuominchun Retirement.

A message from Tsinan says it is reliably reported that Sun Liang- sing is now at Kaifeng. All the Kuominchun troops in Shantung are rapidly withdrawing to Honan via Lunghai.

Official circles here hint that if Sun Liang-sing's resignation is accepted, he will be succeeded by Feng Chen-wu.-Renter.

The Question of Tsingtao.

Hankow, Apr. 29. It is understood that, Interview- ing Hauch Tu-pih, who is Feng Yu-balang'a pro tem representa- tive, the Generalissimo stated that the detailing of troops to take over control from the Japanese in Shantung had not precluded Fang. from sending a representative force to Tsingtao; therefore, though Feng's force had been viven control from Teinan to Wei- halen, and Chiang's forces east- ward from Wellajen to Tsingtao, it was intimated that, if necessary: part of the "Christian" General's troops should have been asked to proceed to Tsingtan also,--Henter.
