NEW STOP-GO BEACONS TO
BE INSTALLED.
So satisfied are the Trainc Con- trol Department with the results attained by the flashing beacon which operated for several months at the intersection of Des Voeux Road and Pulder Street. until it was knocked down by a chauffeur, that plans have been laid for the installation of a number of others In the points at important Colony, chiefly in Kowloon,
The new bencong are to be of the Stop-Go" kind that are to be found operating in the principal eltics of Europe and the United, States. The first installation is to be made at the end of Garden Road, and will be the first practical, easily worked and cheap signalling apparatus of its kind erected in the Colony.
The apparatus is simplicity in itself. Signal
indications are given partly by means of lights, red for Stop and green for Go, and partly by means of red and green sign boards bearing the words. Stop and Go and painted red and the respectively. Both green boards and the lights are mani-
pulated by an easily turned handle on the signal post. In sunlight and clear daylight the sign-boards dominate as signal indicators.

1--The Idea of letter golf is to chaage one word to another and do it in pår, a given number of strokes. Thus to cht ve COW to HEN, in three strokes, COW 110W HEW HEN.
2-You can change only one letter at a time.
3-You must have a complete
word, of common usage, for each jump. Slang words and abbrevia
tlons don't count.
4-The order of letters cannot be changed.
One solution le printed on an- other page.
An important feature of this up- paratus is that it can be set in operation and stopped in a moment. The light is extinguish- ed by means of an easily acces rible cuek, and the lettered' sidesį. of the four algn-boards can bu turned inwards by a single move-of 55, and the apparatus itself ment: This fenture of construc- calls for no great intelligence to tion is necessary owing to the fhet that the trate ofleer in charge might quite suddenly have to quit his post.
