There was a further echo yes- terday of the recent tragic shoot- ing affair In Yaumati, in the ap- pearance of Ng Chau (17) an ex- "boy" of the No. 2 (Wanchai) Police Station, before Mr. T.-S. Whyte Smith and Major C. Willson at the Kowloon Magistracy on a charge of being in unlawful pos- session of one revolver`and six rounds of ammunition,
Mr. T. Murphy, Assistant Direc- tor of Criminal Intelligence, pro- secuted.
In reply to the charge, the de fendant said that somebody had: stolen the revolver from the No. 2 Police Station and gave it to him. He did not know he had to have a licence.
When asked if there was any thing known against the defen- dant, Mr. Murphy replied that he had been convicted of larceny in 1927 and given twelve strokes of the cane; while he was at present undergoing a term of six months' imprisonment for larceny arising out of the theft of these revolvera,
Mr. Whyte Smith expressed sur- prise that the defendant should have been employed at a Police Station when he had a previous conviction for larceny.
Mr. Murphy pointed out the dimculty of everybody having to Lake finger prints of servante be fore they were engaged.
